China Now
In the year when all eyes will be focused on Beijing for the Olympic Games, Southbank Centre is celebrating Chinese life and culture with a programme of events in collaboration with CHINA NOW. This thread of music, film, sound and words will pervade our site from February to June.
An unprecedented range of younger generation writers visit Southbank Centre, reading work ranging from crime fiction to poetry and providing an intriguing insight into current issues in China today. Young Chinese musicians living in the UK perform in our public spaces and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra provide a contemporary take on traditional music. A conference explores creative exchange with China while, around the site, film and sound installations animate our public spaces. It is a small gesture of admiration for an astonishing culture.
