120 years separate the works on this programme, and they inhabit very different worlds. Haydn's Symphony No.88 and Beethoven's shimmering Piano Concerto exemplify the stylish essence of high Classicism, whereas Webern's landmark Five Movements, from 1909, shows the astonishing birth of atonality and 'modern' music.
