Hayward Library and Archive
The Hayward Library, a reference library reflecting the research needs of the exhibition curators, acquires contemporary material on artists, exhibitions, architecture, photography and critical theory (art). The emphasis is on modern and contemporary art (British and international). There is a small quantity of historic material. The library is able to offer public access as a last resource reference library for consultation by appointment only. The library catalogue is accessible online for staff and will shortly be accessible on the web.
This is a special library, established 1987, formerly the Visual Arts Library, Arts Council of Great Britain established in the 1940s.

- Core archive collection of own exhibition publications, Arts
- Council of Great Britain 1942-1993, Arts Council Collection
- Hayward Touring Exhibitions and The Hayward art exhibition catalogues to date
- Archive collection of posters, press reviews, exhibition ephemera from 1968
- Slides, black and white photographs and colour transparencies of exhibition installations
- Small collection of audio visual material
- Archived exhibition records of Hayward Gallery since 1987
- National Touring Exhibitions and Arts Council Collection exhibitions since 1994 (earlier Arts Council of Great Britain records are in the ACGB (1945-1987) Archive at the Archive of Art and Design, W14 - part of the National Art Library, V&A).
